I nearly considered giving up the idea of starting this blog, what on earth am I doing, I don’t write, I can’t write.  Will I have time, who’s actually going to read it blah blah blah & how the bloody hell do you use WordPress???  Yet here I am with a bit of a blog to get me going, pages and images look OK but to be honest I’m just glad I managed to get something up without asking the kids for help!

Everyones Buck Stops Here is how we,  or should i say, the kids & hubbie roll over here, everything that is wrong, mistakes made, achievements not reached, pe bags not packed, food tech stuff not bought, drinks spilled……………. can only be the fault of one person let me introduce her…… me, Sharon.

Firstly I must stress I’m no writer, I’m a talker, sticking to the brief will be testing but I will try not to write like I talk otherwise this will be a very lengthy introduction!

For a long time I have toyed with the idea of writing a blog about being a mum to 4 kids, how we cope with the teenage years,  how I hang on to my younger ones innocence enjoying these years more so maybe knowing how quick it all changes.

Most importantly of all, the main reason for my blog is to talk about my youngest daughter who has Selective Mutism, what’s that I hear you say, well its  “ A severe anxiety disorder where a person is unable to speak in certain social situations, such as with classmates at school or relatives they don’t see very often”.  It will be about the travels we have made and are still making down a very long road with many turnings, some wrong, some right but as always we are a resiliant lot and march on we do.

I remember all too well how obsessed I became into finding out what Selective Mutism actually was, googling morning, noon and night, looking for that one story I could relate to, insight into how families were managing but there was none!  We were on our own, so a bit like learning to ride a bike on we jumped and hoped for the best.

Writing my first piece on Evelena made me reflect on how far we have come over the last 4 years and the progress we have made and how far we still have to go.  How as a family we have come to understand Selective Mutism, after all you can’t understand something you know nothing about! after all we are a family of talkers what do we know about keeping quiet!  So, if this blog can help at least one family gain something from our insight and experiences with Selective Mutism it will all be worthwhile.

Of course with 3 other kids there are lots of other topics to discuss, in fact I think I could write pages on a day in the life of my teenage son at school, no dull moments there!! how girls are so different to boys, well they are in this house, so heres to lots of writing yet to come.

So like planning & building a house, here in lies my blog, the foundation laid now to start building the layers.  I have no doubt there will be a few cracks on the way as this blogging is a whole new world to me.
